Art Tucker, owner and founder of Artotems Co., a local marketing and publicity firm, along with teammate Kristen Romero, gave an in-depth presentation last Wednesday evening at Tiny’s Restaurant. The two pulled back the curtain at their workshop titled—“Your Book Is Published, Now What?”—a how-to guide for authors who have recently published a book but aren’t sure what to do next. The workshop covered important elements such as what goes on a professional author website, different types of reviews and how to get them, social media presence, and much more. Attendees were able to ask many questions on each topic and get some insight into how they can get their published or upcoming books out into the world.

This contest supports Reading Works, a community-based nonprofit that enriches the lives of adults and their families by increasing their literacy skills through free one-on-one tutoring or small group instruction.

Contest Rules

• Create a 30-word short short story of any genre.
• Contest participants may submit five stories per category.​

• Submissions must be typed, 12-pt Arial font.
• Each file must include the contestant’s name. 
• Submissions must be formatted in .doc, .docx, or pdf and include the contestant’s name.
• Submissions will be accepted till January 10, 2020.
• All ages welcome.

• Winners and runners-up will be announced and invited to a public reading in Albuquerque. If you can’t attend, a professional actor will read your story. (Date to be determined.)
• The winning stories will be posted on our website, as well as social media.

Kiva Editor, Volumes 87-89

The Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society and Taylor and Francis copublish Kiva: The Journal of Southwestern Anthropology and History. Kiva is the premier journal of the Southwest and has published peer-reviewed articles about archaeology, anthropology, history, and linguistics since 1935. The journal has a print circulation to AAHS members and regional, national, and international distribution, with digital access through Routledge (a subsidiary of Taylor & Francis Publishing) and JSTOR. The journal is now being indexed by SCOPUS and the Emerging Sources Citation Index. The Society is now accepting applications for the position of Kiva editor. Editorial teams will also be considered. The editor spearheads the publishing process by working with the book reviews editor and Routledge’s editorial, production and marketing team. Routledge is responsible for the publication of Kiva, including production, distribution, sales, and marketing. Although the Society is based in Tucson, the editor is an independent contractor and may reside elsewhere.
The editor has a working relationship with the Society’s Publications Committee and Board of Directors through an initial contract covering three volume years. Responsibilities of the editor include maintaining the established high quality of the journal. External advice and consultation are available through an Editorial Advisory Board appointed by the editor. The editor accepts and solicits manuscripts, oversees peer review of all research articles, and provides editing and proofing of four issues per volume year; each issue is about 120 printed pages. Specific duties include Spanish abstract acquisition, maintaining communication with authors, reviewers, the occasional guest editor, and the Publications Committee. An online submission and refereeing site uses Editorial Manager Software to facilitate article tracking and publication. Routledge provides training for the system.

The contract is renewable and payable in the amount of $2,000 per issue, upon completion of each issue ($8,000 per year). The ideal candidate has a background in Southwest archaeology, history, ethnography, or a related discipline.
